A fire door is a door with a fire-resistance rating. This could also be called a fire protection rating for closures. Fire doors are used as part of a passive fire protection system. This is to reduce or limit the spread of fire or smoke between rooms. This also enables escaping a building in safety as certain sections are protected with fire doors.

Any fire door must comply with the requirements as stipualted in SABS 1253 and must be fitted with an approved selfclosing device.  The whole fire door unit must comply with the relevant standards.

These doors play a vital role in protecting lifes and assest. These fire doors a engineered to protect in case of a fire. They keep the fire in a specific section and can handle a lot more heat when compared to other type of doors.

It is vital to inspect your fire doors and keep it clear of any obstructions as this is your only emergency escape route.

Why do you need Fire Detection Systems?

Most commercial buildings now have a fire detection system to protect the occupants and the building, but are just detecting the fire enough?

The problem with not having detection is that although you know you have a fire (the fire alarm sounders or bells are ringing) there is no way to safely suppress the fire yourself and that’s if you are there. The Fire Service will put it out when called but the smoke damage occurring before they arrive and the water damage after can be quite significant.

Fire suppression systems & automatic extinguishing systems are used to reduce the level of damage and down time by automatically suppressing the fire ready for the Fire Service to get there and ensure it is out and safe to return. This ensures that your critical processes within your business such as the server or communications room or manufacturing process etc are up and running again in the minimum time. The ultimate success of the extinguishing system is that your customers didn’t even know you had a fire.

The operation of the fire suppression system in a fire situation can greatly reduce in most cases the level of damage and with some cases very little loss of production and downtime. Leaving you to replace a small PCB or piece of equipment that caused the fire, rather than all the equipment within the room.

Bayteck Fire, a subsidiary of Bayteck Holdings, specialises in the latest fire safety requirements demanded of each and every business entity in South Africa by legislative requirements.

What does this fire safety requirements entail and what legislation requirements are involved?

Fire safety requirements are encompassed in SANS 10400, The Application of the National Building Regulations which amongst other, clearly state in Regulation T (1) (e): “Any building shall be so designed, constructed and equipped that in case of a fire – Adequate means of access, and equipment for detecting, fighting, controlling and extinguishing such fire, is provided.”

One can compare this requirement with the saying that if you don’t have a parachute when you need it, one is in serious trouble.

Bayteck Fire however will provide all the necessary fire fighting equipment, technological and friendly fire safety service and advice in this regard when needed, to ensure the “parachute” is not only there when needed but it will actually work and save you from disaster.

We offer a wide range of Fire Extinguisers, Fire Equipment, Fire Doors, Boxes and Cabinets, Safety Signs and more.

Complete the form and we will get back to you with more information on your specific Fire Equipment and Fire Safety needs.
