The responsibility to carry out the work processes in a safe manner now falls to the employees. 

All employees must be aware that they are required to conduct themselves in a manner that ensures safe working processes / instructions are carried out in order to contribute to the well-being and safety of fellow employees and members of the public who enter your premises.

WHAT IS SAFE WORK PROCEDURES?

(Method Statement as per Construction Regulation 1 – Definitions:

“method statement” 
means a document detailing the key activities to be performed in order to reduce as reasonably as practicable the hazards identified in any risk assessment.)

  • Step by step instructions on how a potentially hazardous task should be safely carried out. 
  • Hazards and precautionary measures are detailed in each step. 


WHY ARE SAFE WORK PROCEDURES NECESSARY? 

  • To ensure the health and safety of employees. 
  • It is a means of informing, instructing and training employees so that they understand the hazards involved, as well as what precautions must be taken to avoid injury or sickness.
  • To set a standard of health and safety measures and behaviour for certain tasks. 
  • To reduce the risk of work-related incidents. 
  • It is a legal requirement of the OHS Act. 


WHAT DOES THE LAW REQUIRE? (SECTION 8 – OHS ACT)

General duties of Management:

  • Provide the necessary information, instruction, training and supervision to ensure the health and safety of employees – section 8 (e)
     
  • Not to permit work unless the precautionary measures have been taken – section 8 (f)
     
  • Enforcing such measures as may be necessary for health and safety – section 8 (h)
     
  • Ensuring that work is done under supervision of persons trained to understand the hazards, and who have the authority to ensure that the precautionary measures are implemented – section 8 (i)


WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ENSURING THAT SAFE WORK PROCEDURES ARE IMPLEMENTED AND ADHERED TO?

Every employee is responsible, by law, to adhere to and implement the Safe Work Procedures when carrying out their tasks and functions – [section 14 (a), (b) and (c) of the OHS Act].

Branch managers (or a member of management) have been delegated with the responsibility to ensure that safe work procedures are followed by everyone in their business units / branch and to correct the behaviour of those who do not take the precautionary measures.

COTRACTORS WORKING ON COMPANY PREMISES




Only authorised contractors are permitted to work or perform work on Company premises.

The contractors are required to comply with all health and safety requirements which we have implemented in our workplaces.

Prior to allowing a contractor to access our premises and perform any work, the Branch Manager or health and safety representative must verify that the contractor is an approved
contractor or service provider and the contractor must sign the OHS Agreement between Employer and Contractor Agreement.

The health and safety representative must inspect all contractor staff, equipment, tools and chemicals etc which are used by the contractor to ensure that they comply with the Company's health and safety standards.
